GRUPA ABC ANDRZEJA NEBESKIEGO

Poland 1969 - 1970 / 2009
Polskie Nagrania, PNCD 1269
Total time: ?? mins / 18 tracks

One of the most wanted Polish vinyl albums, here compilated with the first EP of the band and two special bonus tracks. Beat, rock, soulrock and some progressive rock touch.

ANAWA "Korowod"

Poland 1971 / 2005
Pomaton, 7243 5 27742 2 7
Total time: 75 mins / 17 tracks

After the first album of the group (Anawa, 1970) with beautiful, romantic, acoustic ballads to the words of Polish poets, the band changed its line-up and style. With the new musicians, which played until yet jazz, jazzrock or oriental music, begun Anawa its journey into the mostly improvisated, acoustic progressive folkrock with sometimes oriental roots, but also with beautiful, lyrical melodies and incredible voice of Marek Grechuta. "Korowod" with the 10 minutes long, full of improvisations brilliant title song is the best result of this trip. The newest issue contains 8 bonus tracks from 1970 - 1971, including live version of the title song.

ANAWA

1973
Muza, XL/SXL 1066
CD: Digiton, DIG 138 (1993)

The most rocking album of the band, but - as always - played on the acoustic instruments (here also with electric guitars). Less oriental and lyric, more avantgarde and rock as on "Korowod". Still fascinating progressive folkrock to the words of wisdom of the Polish poets, but also of "Gilgamesh" and Giordano Bruno. The new vocal soloist is Andrzej Zaucha from Dzamble group.

BEMIBEM "Bemowe frazy"

Poland 1974 / 2007
Muza, PNCD 1096
Total time: 39 mins / 11 tracks

Very fresh and particular album. Jazz and soul with the echoes of rock, pop ballads, bossa nova, samba... Clear and delicate, almost acoustic sound combinated with high expression. Newly remastered edition in digipack.

STAN BORYS "Krzycze przez sen"

Poland 1970 / 2002
Yesterday,
Total time: 68 mins / 8 tracks

Incredible album of the great voice known from Blackout and Bizony groups' albums. Recorded with the best jazz musicians of those times features music between jazz, rock and some kind of dark chanson, very unique. This CD release comes together with His second album, called "Szukam przyjaciela" from 1974, also very interesting, with some dramatic songs, but closer to good pop or variety music.

BREAKOUT "Na drugim brzegu teczy"

Poland 1969 / 2005
Muza, PNCD 988
Total time: 35 mins / 10 tracks

First longplay of the band and the first true psychodelic album in Poland. Psychodelic rock with some jazzy touch and slavonic nature combinated with westcoast sound. One of the members of the group that days was famous jazz saxophonist Wlodzimierz Nahorny.

BREAKOUT "70a"

Poland 1970 / 2005

Poland 1967 - 1980
Polskie Radio, PRCD 1201-1204
Total time: 250 mins / 75 tracks (four records)

The title of this box (Live recordings 1967 - 1980) is not correct... They are live songs, indeed, but taken from various song competitions. So this is not only rock, as they played on their "true" live shows in that years, but also some variety music, pop hits etc. But anyway You can find there many rare and unpublished tracks.

"The Black Angel of Polish song". She performs the very difficult, strange, unusual dark chansons of high poetic quality, to the words of Polish (but also German, Spanish, French, Jewish and Russian) poets, with the band creating chamber, jazzy sound. This album is anyway not connected with rock or pop, but She is without doubt the great person in our music. The enchanced release contains bonus CD with the three songs from rare first single.

This time Slawomir Piwowar on guitar, Apostolis Anthimos on bass, while Jozef Skrzek played mainly Fender piano. The jazzrock side of this famous trio.

Poland 2001 / 2002
CD Silesia, CD 001
Total time: 56 mins / 5 tracks

First album with the new drummer Paul Wertico (ex Pat Metheny). He determined the music of the trio as the powerful jazzrock, almost driven by the drums. The album is not bad, but the new face of the famous progressive Polish band is hard to accept by the old fans.

SBB "The Rock"

Poland 2007
Metal Mind, MMP CD 0558 DG
Total time: 71 mins / 11 tracks (two CDs)

Another album of the legendary prog band, the first one with the new drummer Gabor Nemeth from Hungary (ex Skorpio). SBB "Iron curtain"

SKALDOWIE "Od wschodu do zachodu slonca"

Poland 1970 / 2002
Yesterday, 830988029-2
Total time: 38 mins / 10 tracks

After few nice beat and psychodelic albums in the 60s the first step into the land of progressive rock. Great hammond organ and piano parts, beautiful songs arranged as the true prog works and ingenious idea of the whole album created one of the best Polish record. This CD release comes with the formerly band's album from 1969.

SKALDOWIE "Krywan, Krywan"

Poland 1972 / 2002
Yesterday, 830988031-2
Total time: 35 mins / 5 tracks

The band's Opus Magnum. The amazing title suite on the side A brings brilliant hammond organ and violin solos, improvisated avantgarde parts, influences of Polish mountain folklore and also excerpts from the works of great classical composers. On the side B are to hear four very good progrock songs. This CD release comes with another Skaldowie prog album from 1976.

SKALDOWIE "Stworzenia swiata czesc druga"

Yesterday, 830988032-2
Total time: 39 mins / 5 tracks

After four years the next brilliant album based on the same idea - the long, symphonic suite on the A side with four rock songs on side B. This time the title suite is more complicated and closer to avantgarde, while the songs are more quiet and delicate. This CD issue comes with the best album of the band - "Krywan" from 1976.

SKALDOWIE "Nagrania koncertowe z lat 1966 - 1990"

Poland 1966 - 1990 / 2008
Polskie Radio, PRCD 1197-1200
Total time: 258 mins / 71 tracks (four records)

The title of this box (Live recordings 1966 - 1990) is not correct... They are live songs, indeed, but taken from various song competitions. So this is not progressive rock, as they played on their "true" live shows in that years, but some variety music, pop hits etc. But anyway You can find there some progrock influences and, last but not least, many rare and unpublished tracks.

ANDRZEJ ZIELINSKI - STANISLAW DEJA "Skaldowie na dwa fortepiany"

Poland 2007 / 2008
Polskie Radio, PRCD 1141-1142
Total time: 100 mins / 23 tracks (two records)

This album is some kind of "Skaldowie unplugged". Poland 1972 - 1979 / 2008
Polskie Radio, PRCD 1089 - 90
Total time: 93 mins / 21 tracks (two records)

The true legend among the Polish hardrock bands from the 70s, for the first time on any record. The first CD contains the songs from 1972 and 1973, very interesting underground heavy rock with flute, vibes (Jerzy Milian!) and, in the songs from 1973, violin parts. The later songs are closer to progressive rock; nice, but not interesting so much.

TEST

The first true classic hardrock Polish band. They played many hardrock hits of western heavy groups, but the first and only one album contains their own songs, including also few easy rock ballads. The issue contains also five bonus tracks, including "Smoke on the water".

TRUBADURZY "Bedziesz ty..."

Poland 1973 / 1998
Muza, PNCD 410

The band recorded few not very interesting, poprock albums. But this one brings unexpectedly rock and progressive rock songs with many really interesting hammond organ, guitar and flute parts and - last but not least - true rock expression.

TADEUSZ WOZNIAK "2. (Odcien ciszy)"

Yesterday, 830988045-2
Total time: 37 mins / 8 tracks

After the first LP with beautiful folk songs and ballads Wozniak recorded their second album as the trip into progressive folkrock. The arrangements with leading electric guitar and Fender piano, sophisticated compositions, including near 15 minutes long title track, and some particular kind of trance in hearing of this music place the record among the best Polish progressive albums. This CD release contains also His first album.

VARIOUS ARTISTS "Warszawski rock and roll lat 60."

Poland 1965 - 1969 / 2009
Polskie Nagrania, PNCD 1262
Total time: ?? mins / 17 tracks

Nice compilation of the Warsaw beat and rockandroll groups from the 60s. Almost all of them (except Klan) have not released a longplay, so the 7" records or even radio recordings became until yet their only sign of activity.

The most interesting are two long 1975 songs of Czeslaw Niemen, discovered newly in radio archives, added as the bonus tracks.

ZDROJ JANA

1970 - 1972
Never released on LP or CD

The most legendary band in the story of Polish rock. Their whole discography is the only one floppy record with one song. They recorded eight short songs for Polish Radio and one 15 minutes long composition for the cartoon movie "Zegnaj Paro! (Good bye for the steam)", realised in 1974 by one of the group's member Ryszard Antoniszczak. The band played a kind of psychodelic rock with many folk, country or bluegrass influences, using the rare, unusual for rock music acoustic instruments. In the late 90s they recorded few new songs for the brand new album, but it were never finished.
